Anson Elementary School Policies

Absence/Late Policy
Please call the office (641-754-1020) to let us know when your child will be absent or late. If you wish to call before hours, there is an answering machine to take your message. It is a School Board policy that we will attempt to contact parents who have not contacted the school. If we are unable to determine why a student is absent, the absence is unexcused and considered truancy.
Please send a written note to your child's teacher or call the school office when you will be picking up your child for an appointment during school time, or if you know in advance of the absence.
Administering Medication to Students
A request to give a students prescription medication must be signed by both the physician and the parent. The request form for giving medication is found in the nurse's office. It must have the proper signatures and be returned to the school before the medication may be given. The medication must be in a container properly labeled by the pharmacist with the name of the medication, proper dosage, and the name of the physician.
Any prescription drug, such as aspirin, cold tablets, ointments or cough syrup must be accompanied with a request signed by the parent for directions on time of dosage. Students may not keep these in their school bags or classrooms. They must be kept in the nurse's office.
Please contact the school nurse with any questions.
Before-School Day Care
There is no before-school daycare at Anson Elementary. The time before 8:30 a.m. is planning time for teachers. Office personnel have responsibilities or meetings at that time as well. Particularly in cold winter months, when children want to come to the office area to keep warm before school, not having supervision can result in a loud, restless group. Therefore, it is important that your child(ren) not come to school before adult supervision is provided for them, at 8:05 a.m. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
Bicycle Policy
Students below fourth grade are not allowed to ride bikes to school due to the school's location on a busy intersection. Student safety was the number one reason for creating this policy. Fourth grade students who wish to ride a bike must live at least six blocks from the school. Permission may be given under special circumstances by calling the school at 641-754-1020.
Breakfast in the Classroom Policy
Starting the day with breakfast helps get students ready to learn. Anson Elementary offers breakfast to all students at no charge. Breakfast is served from 8:30-8:45 a.m. only. No late breakfasts will be available. The program starts the first day of school. No breakfast will be offered in the gym. Free and reduced lunch applications are still required for the lunch program.
Clothing Policy
The building's clothing policy does not allow students to wear clothing that reveals underwear. Please make sure that your child's pants do not hang so low that the child's underwear shows. Having a child stand up in class and walk to the front of the room with his/her underwear showing is very distracting to the class.
