Our Vision
A Safe and Healthy Learning Environment for Students, Staff, and Families
Students, parents, and staff at Hoglan agree that the learning process,
as well as the products of quality assignments, are important to each
child's learning. Teachers and students work together on activities
and interactions which challenge students to become independent, successful
learners. Students can explain what they are learning and why it is important
in the real world. Up-to-date technology is a central part of learning
at Hoglan. Students and staff use technology regularly to investigate,
develop and strengthen various skills, create original products, communicate,
and maintain enthusiasm for learning.
Students and staff members interact positively
and cooperatively at Hoglan by demonstrating an attitude of responsibility
and respect. Students are on-task, actively participating in cooperative
learning tasks, and using self-management skills to strengthen group and
individual learning. Students working with students in other grade levels
is a regular part of learning at Hoglan. Older students learn by teaching
and helping younger students. Younger students learn by observing older
role-models and practicing skills with them.
Families are actively involved in their children's
education at Hoglan. Staff members encourage them to visit school, volunteer
at school, and share areas of knowledge and interest. Parents/caregivers
also participate in parent/student/teacher conferences, take part in special
events and field trips, and are active in the School Improvement Planning
(SIP) Team and Parent/Teacher Association (PTA). Teachers and parents/caregivers
communicate frequently about students' progress. At home, families
talk about school and read together daily. Parents/caregivers respond
to communications from school, and make sure their children's basic
needs are met every day so they come to school ready to learn.
There are many adults working individually or with small groups of children every day to provide academic support, mental and physical health services, social opportunities, and other special resources. These adults are mentors, tutors, volunteers, and members of our partnerships with Wells Fargo Bank, MICA, Hope United Methodist Church, and the Mental Health Center. Hoglan has appropriate space for these adults to work effectively with children. The school also has space for movement activities, displaying student projects, before and after school activities, day care, preschool, and family services.
