Our Elementary Schools (Grades K-4)
Academic achievement, character development and
enrichment opportunities in a clean, safe and challenging environment.
Marshalltown‘s six elementary schools offer personalized education to children in kindergarten through fourth grades.
In 2009 the district implemented a new K-6 math curriculum that uses interactive technology to teach students not only math, but the vocabulary and language needed for problem solving. All K-6 classrooms are outfitted with projectors to supplement and enhance the learning experience.
The district provides a balanced literacy program, including word study, fluency practice, comprehension, as well as the practice of guided reading.
A comprehensive reading support system includes literacy tutors in kindergarten to second grade, parent volunteers, paraeducators, foster grandparents, and older student mentors.
Our curriculum emphasizes activity-based learning to increase problem-solving skills and inquisitiveness.
