The Marshalltown Community School District invites the local community to the Marshalltown High School Stadium Complex ribbon cutting and open house on Friday, Sept. 1.
The new MHS Stadium Complex features a wider athletic field, synthetic turf surface, upgraded stadium bleachers, a new press box area, new track and field event areas, and an advanced video scoreboard. The complex also has new lighting, sound, and digital timing systems. The MHS Stadium Complex project kicked off in April 2023 and will be substantially completed on Aug. 30.
”The prior track and field served Marshalltown High School well for the past fifty-eight years. This new state of the art facility will provide our student athletes with a practice and performance venue they can be proud of, similar to many of the schools they compete against,” said Superintendent Dr. Theron Schutte. “I’m particularly glad that we can now provide one of our most popular sports programs, soccer, with a regulation-size field that will enable them to play state qualifying matches in their home stadium.”
Marshalltown fans will be able to enjoy the new complex and see Bobcat athletes use the field for the first time at the Friday, Sept. 8 football game against Davenport North.
“We are extremely excited to showcase this facility. A substantial amount of planning and preparation has been prepared for this occasion,” said MHS Athletic Director Ryan Isgrig. “Our stadium upgrade extends to our students, coaches, and the entire Marshalltown Community. Marshalltown deserves this. Its potential to enhance our programs is truly promising.”
The cost of the project was just over $6 million and was covered using SAVE state sales tax revenue. This fund accounts for the revenue and expenditures to the statewide sales tax for a school district. MCSD will also be adding a storm shelter and team room facility to the stadium complex by next year, made possible by a $3.4 million grant from the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEMD) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
“This facility will benefit all MHS students as it will be able to be used as an educational space for physical education classes and our marching band will be able to regularly practice there instead of in the parking lot, as in the past,” said Schutte.
