MCSD to host Judy Brunner on Aug. 16
The Marshalltown Community School District will be hosting Judy Brunner as an educational keynote speaker for families and community members on Wednesday, August 16.
Brunner’s topic, “Normal Peer Conflict vs. Bullying and Harassment”, will help families consider the differences and how to help. Her talk will provide practical tips and insights into these types of behaviors that frustrate students, families, and school staff.
“Bullying and harassment has been identified by our students and parents as an area for which the Marshalltown Community School District needs to pursue continuous improvement,” said Superintendent Dr. Theron Schutte. “School should be a safe and fun place for all students to learn and grow, academically and behaviorally. Our goal continues to be to provide an outstanding educational environment that best positions all students to successfully pursue their goals and dreams”
Brunner is an educator with more than 30 years as a teacher, elementary, middle, and high school principal. She teaches at Missouri State University and has provided training and information to educators and parents across the country on the topic of the prevention of cyber-bullying, intimidation, and harassment. She is the co-author of the Corwin Press bestseller SchoolHouse Bullies: Preventive Strategies for Professional Educators.
The presentation will be at the Orpheum Theater from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. This event is free and open to all community members. Individuals with questions can email them to Dr. Theron Schutte at tschutte@marshalltown.k12.ia.us.
