The Des Moines East softball team outslugged Marshalltown in a doubleheader sweep, beating the Bobcats 14-8 and 10-8 on Wednesday night.
The Scarlets (3-10) hit two home runs in the first game and another in the second, totalling 25 hits in the twinbill. Marshalltown (3-7) amassed 21 hits, but came up just short in the slugfest.
Laney Danielson was 3-for-3 with a double, a home run and three RBIs to lead MHS in the first game. Karsyn Price took the loss, allowing 12 runs — 10 earned — on 12 hits and three walks. Hanna Osgood pitched an inning of relief.
In the nightcap, the Bobcats rallied to take an 8-7 lead with four runs in the top of the sixth, but East answered with three runs for the eventual victory. Hits by Aubree Mundt, Bella Avise, Kate Sandvick, and Laney and Briley Danielson gave MHS the lead, but the ‘Cats couldn’t keep it.
Briley took the loss in the circle, allowing nine earned runs on 10 hits and three walks, striking out one. Avise, Mundt, the Danielsons and Gianna Baune had two hits apiece to lead Marshalltown.
