The perennial power Fort Dodge softball team proved too much for Marshalltown once again, handing the Bobcats a pair of run-rule shortened defeats on Thursday night at Rogers Sports Complex.
Class 4A No. 3 Fort Dodge (11-2, 6-0) got wins of 10-0 and 11-1 against the Bobcats — both in five innings — to run its win streak in the series to 36 games.
In the opening contest, Fort Dodge junior Lucy Porter pitched a perfect game, allowing no Bobcat baserunners in the 10-0, five-inning win. Porter struck out eight, retiring the side on strikes in the top of the fifth to finish off the win.
Karsyn Price took the loss in the circle for Marshalltown (3-9, 2-4), allowing seven earned runs on five hits and six walks while striking out three in 3 1/3 innings. Hanna Osgood gave up a hit and a walk before getting the final two outs.
In the nightcap, Marshalltown managed to capture a brief lead after scoring in the top of the first against eighth-grader Aubrey Alstott. Bella Avise led off with a single but was forced out on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Briley Danielson. Kate Sandvick singled, Kennedy Feldman reached on an error, and a single by Madison Rogers plagted Danielson for a 1-0 lead.
Fort Dodge drew even with a run in the second before breaking free with six runs in the third.
Alstott allowed eight hits while walking none in the win. She struck out four.
Danielson took the loss for MHS, allowing seven runs — six earned — on four hits and three walks, striking out one in 2 1/3 innings. Osgood pitched two innings before the Dodgers ended the game via run rule in the fifth.
Avise and Sandvick had two hits apiece to lead the Bobcats, who outhit Fort Dodge 8-7 in the nightcap. Danielson, Feldman, Rogers and Olivia Wise each added singles.
The Bobcats meet tournament host BCLUW at 7 p.m. tonight in Conrad for the first game of the David Lee Classic.
