The Marshalltown boys’ golf team continued its season-opening gauntlet on Wednesday with a trip to Veenker Memorial Golf Course, finishing second in a three-team Iowa Alliance Conference meet.
Host Ames claimed the top honors on the team tally and the individual ranks, winning the meet with a 332 score. Marshalltown was second at 340 and Des Moines Roosevelt shot 351.
Bowen Flemming finished atop the field with his 4-over-par round of 76 to put Ames in the driver’s seat for the day.
Marshalltown countered with the second-lowest individual score of the day, achieved by a pair of seniors in Ty Faltys and Eli Polley. Faltys took the runner-up honors and Polley placed third to lead the Bobcats around the challenging track.
Senior Adam Boone shot an 89 while sophomore Parker Christen and freshman Joe Greazel tied for the fourth counting score for MHS as both shot 91. This marked Christen’s first time contributing a counting score to the varsity.
Marshalltown’s grueling start to the season wraps up with a third meet in three days, as the Bobcats visit Saddleback Ridge Golf Course on Thursday for the 18-team Cedar Rapids Washington Invitational.
