DES MOINES — The Marshalltown girls swimming team swept three events on its way to a lopsided triumph over Des Moines on Tuesday night in an Iowa Alliance Conference meet.

The Bobcats improved to 3-1 on the season with Tuesday’s 113-57 victory, winning seven of 11 events against the host Polar Bears.

Marshalltown’s win opened with a strong stroke as the Bobcats took first and second in the 200-yard medley relay and first, second and third in the 200 freestyle.

A 1-2-3 finish from the Bobcats’ 100-yard breaststrokers helped to finish off North in the conference clash.

Drea Ceren and Leia Hernandez both scored three first-place finishes to lead Marshalltown in its first road meet of the season. Ceren was a part of the winning bookends, swimming the opening leg for the 200 medley relay and the third leg for the 400 freestyle relay. She also claimed one of the Bobcats’ five individual victories, finishing atop the podium in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.36 seconds.

Hernandez took two individual titles on the night, winning the 200 freestyle (2:10.40) as well as the 500 freestyle (6:05.25). Maisie Gummert got the top spot in the 200 individual medley (2:35.17) and Rachel Case claimed the 100 breaststroke (1:22.48).

Case, Libby Meyer and Isabelle Boone earned Marshalltown a sweep in the next-to-last event. In the 200 freestyle, it was Hernandez, Alex Lasack and Serenity Holtsclaw locking down the top three spots.

Marshalltown’s opening 200 medley relay team of Ceren, Adele Beek, Gummert and Morgan Bear took first place in 2:11.17, and the Bobcats’ second squad of Meyer, Rachel Case, Emma Case and Kate Hauser made it a double in 2:12.27.

The MHS quartet of Emma Case, Beek, Ceren and Hernandez won the final race in 4:10.71.

Up next for Marshalltown is Thursday’s non-conference road match at Cedar Rapids Washington.
