DES MOINES — Marshalltown girls and boys cross country hoarded all the hardware at Thursday’s Mike Augustine Cross Country Classic at Ewing Park.

The Bobcat girls won the four-team race with a team score of 30, clearing Des Moines East’s 52 points as runner-up.

Marshalltown’s Anessa Morrison was the individual champion, finishing the course in 24:04. Miller Heitmann was third in 25:11, Mattea Wright fifth in 26:47, Kaitlyn Yepez Ramirez sixth in 27:03 and Lilyia Christen was 15th in 30:19 as the last scorer for the Bobcats. Sophia Valdez Chavez (30:24, 16th) and Abigail Colwell (33:29, 21st) were non-scorers for the Bobcats.

The MHS boys were only a couple places off perfection with a 17 team score, well ahead of Des Moines Lincoln in second with 46 points.

Preston Johnson led a 1-2-3-4 finish for the Bobcats, crossing the finish line in 16:35. John Moellers was the runner-up in 16:49, Carter Nunn took bronze in 17:19 and Parker Gooding was fourth in 17:48. Caleb Rasmussen was the last scorer in seventh in 18:57. Myles Goldman was close behind in eighth in 19:04 as a non-counting score, and Carson Wright was 14th in 20:07.

The next stop for MHS cross country is the Iowa Alliance Conference Meet at Marshalltown Community College on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
