The Marshalltown and Grundy Center volleyball teams both went 2-2 at the Cedar Falls Tiger Invitational on Saturday, each falling in the first round of bracketed play.
The Bobcats (8-12) were defeated by Class 5A No. 7 Cedar Falls in the quarterfinals, 21-12, 21-16, after going 2-1 in pool play. Marshalltown topped Janesville (21-15, 17-21, 15-13) and Urbandale (19-21, 21-11, 15-8) but lost to No. 15 Linn-Mar (22-20, 17-21, 15-8) before advancing to the championship bracket.
Class 2A No. 12 Grundy Center (17-10) also went 2-1 in pool play with wins over Davenport North (21-11, 21-12) and Cedar Rapids Washington (21-17, 21-11) and a loss to Cedar Falls (21-18, 21-13). The Spartans were swept by 3A No. 3 West Delaware in the championship quarterfinals, 21-13, 21-11.
