The Marshalltown Community School District is excited to welcome Jordyn Terry as the new Associate Principal at Marshalltown High School, where she will oversee Marshalltown Learning Academy (MLA), Marshalltown Virtual Academy (MVA), and the Therapeutic Classroom. She officially joins the Bobcat team on July 1, 2025.
Terry brings over a decade of experience in K–12 education, with a strong background in alternative and special education, multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS), and inclusive school leadership. She currently serves as an Associate Principal for Des Moines Public Schools’ District-Wide Alternative Programs, leading three specialized programs for students in grades 6–12 who require intensive behavioral, academic, and social-emotional support.
“I’m honored to join the Marshalltown team and excited to serve the students and staff at MLA, MVA, and the Therapeutic Classroom,” said Terry. “What drew me to Marshalltown was the district’s strong sense of community, pride, and belonging, along with its deep commitment to relationships, collaboration, and supporting all learners.”
Terry began her career as a special education teacher in the Des Moines and Urbandale districts before serving as a Special Education Coach and Behavioral Strategist for the Ames and Des Moines schools. She is known for implementing trauma-informed practices, behavior intervention systems, and data-driven supports that empower staff and students alike.
Her educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a Special Education Strategist II endorsement and a Master’s in Special Education, both from Upper Iowa University. She also earned a PK–12 Principalship and Special Education Supervision degree from Viterbo University.
“My goal is to create a supportive, inclusive environment where every student—especially those in MLA, MVA, and the Therapeutic Classroom—feels valued and empowered to reach their fullest potential,” Terry shared. “I believe in building systems that empower staff, engage families, and create safe, inclusive learning environments where all students can thrive.”
Outside of her professional life, Terry enjoys spending time with her husband Johnny and their three children—Jocelyn, Freya, and Sullivan. Terry also stays active with CrossFit and cherishes quality time with friends and family.
Please join us in welcoming Jordyn Terry to the MCSD family.
