Franklin Field Project Budget and Bidder Approved by MCSD Board

At a special meeting Thursday night, the Marshalltown Community School District School Board reviewed bidders and approved the budget for the first phase of the Franklin Field renovation project.

The project is part of the bond referendum that received 68 percent voter approval last November. It included the approval of $57 million in General Obligation bonds for the Reimagine Miller project, which centers on renovating, expanding and rebuilding Miller Middle School. The approximate cost of the Franklin Field project is $6.9 million.

Bids for the first phase of the Franklin Field renovation were opened on March 19 at the district office. A public hearing for the project was held during the March 24 regular School Board meeting.

Also at the Thursday meeting, the board recommended and approved Trade Partner Contracts to move the project into the contracting phase.

“We continue to be incredibly grateful to our community for its support of the bond referendum last November,” said Superintendent Dr. Theron Schutte. “We are especially pleased to move forward with the Franklin Field renovation, given the degree of local subcontractors involved. We will continue to keep our community updated as we embark on next steps.”
